DENTAL IMPLANTS

What is an Implant?

Implants are artificial tooth roots made from biologically compatible materials like titanium and placed into the jawbone. These implants are designed to replace missing teeth and provide an aesthetic and functional solution by placing a prosthesis or crown on them.

How is it Applied?

  1. Initial Evaluation: The first step is to evaluate the patient’s condition. The structure of the jawbone, gum health, and overall health status are examined.
  2. Implant Placement: Implants are placed into the jawbone under local anesthesia. This procedure is usually surgical, and X-ray images are used to ensure the implants are positioned correctly.
  3. Healing Process: After the implants are placed, a healing process is required for the implants to integrate with the jawbone. This process can take several months, allowing the implants to fuse tightly with the bone.
  4. Abutment Placement: Once healing is complete, a connection piece called an abutment is placed on the implants. The abutment allows a prosthesis or crown to be fixed on it.
  5. Prosthesis or Crown Application: A specially prepared prosthesis or crown is placed on the abutment. This prosthesis or crown provides a natural tooth-like appearance and function.

What are the Advantages?

  1. Natural Appearance and Function: Implants offer the closest aesthetic and functional solution to natural teeth. Prostheses or crowns restore the patient’s smile and chewing ability.
  2. Long-Term Solution: With proper care and regular check-ups, implants can last for many years. They are more durable compared to other restorative options.
  3. Protection of Adjacent Teeth: Unlike traditional bridges, adjacent teeth do not need to be cut. This preserves healthy tooth tissue.
  4. Prevention of Bone Loss: Implants maintain pressure on the jawbone, preventing bone loss. This helps preserve the jawline and facial aesthetic structure.

SINUS LIFTING

Sinus lifting is a surgical procedure performed to increase bone volume in the upper jaw area for patients lacking sufficient bone mass before implant treatment. This procedure involves adding a bone graft to the area below the sinus cavity, providing adequate bone volume for implant placement.

IMPACTED TOOTH SURGERIES AND WHAT TO KNOW

Impacted tooth surgeries are surgical procedures aimed at freeing or removing a tooth that cannot erupt properly. These surgeries can vary depending on the tooth's condition and the location where it is impacted.

  1. Pain and Discomfort: Impacted teeth can exert pressure on surrounding tissues, causing symptoms like pain, swelling, and discomfort.
  2. Infections: Bacterial buildup around the gum can lead to infections.
  3. Cysts and Cyst Formation: Cysts can form around impacted teeth, exerting pressure under the gums or on the jawbone.
  4. Surrounding Tooth Problems: Impacted teeth can cause decay or damage to adjacent teeth.

Post-Operative Care and Recovery

After impacted tooth surgeries, patients need to rest for a certain period and watch their diet. Post-operative pain, swelling, and discomfort are normal and usually subside within a few days. Following the dentist's instructions can speed up the healing process and reduce the risk of complications.
